Elizabeth is a major import/export and transportation hub, and a gateway to New Jersey for immigrants. Because of this, its residents have a high rate of exposure to toxic chemicals and air pollutants. Future City promotes conservation, advocates for effective land use and protects wetlands. The Schumann Fund’s grant supports Future City’s efforts to purchase and rehabilitate small, readily accessible and sustainable open spaces with the city of Elizabeth.
