Despite their image as a dumpsite, New Jersey’s Meadowlands are home to more than 250 species of birds and numerous species of fish and wildlife. The Hackensack Riverkeeper provides information to the public and policy makers about the environmental challenges to the watershed, conducts educational programs, and helps coordinate citizen action to restore and preserve the river and the 7,000 acres of wetlands surrounding it. The Schumann Fund provided operating support.
