Newark’s mayor Ras Baraka has embarked on a city-wide literacy campaign that envisions the city embracing literacy as a communal cause and culture for city residents of all ages. The Schumann grant supports a literacy training institute for providers of out-of-school time programs to engage youth and their families in literacy-based activities.
