Martha Bonsal Day joined Schumann Fund for New Jersey’s Board of Trustees in 2005. She grew up in Montclair, raised her family in Montclair, and has dedicated her life to supporting her neighbors locally and others beyond the borders of this thriving township.
Throughout her life, Martha has continued the philanthropic legacy of her grandparents and parents in Essex County and Montclair by serving on Montclair-based boards. The Montclair Kimberley Academy (MKA), the Alumni Council of MKA, the Montclair Foundation, and on Session at Central Presbyterian Church in Montclair have all benefited from her time and talent. Martha has also served on the United States Cotton Board, the International Hand Protection Association Board, and the boards of Joshua L. Baily & Co., Inc., and Mayfair Mills, Inc.
After earning a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and English at Bowdoin College, Martha was executive vice president and chief operating officer of Joshua L. Baily & Co., Inc. She managed the strategic, operational, and administrative functions for this textile sales and asset-based lender.
Martha earned her Master of Divinity degree at the New Brunswick Theological Seminary and is co-pastor at three Presbyterian (USA) churches in East Orange, Lyndhurst, and Moonachie. She is an accomplished singer and actor, too. Martha sings with the Foggettes, a tight-harmony singing group that provides complimentary performances to nonprofit organizations. She is also a member of the Mental Health Players for the Mental Health Association of New Jersey.
